Stadium Pow Wow by A Tribe Called Red

Indigenous Pride, Life & Land in First Nations DJ crew A Tribe Called Red's new single

18 Jun 2016

“Stadium Pow Wow” is A Tribe Called Red‘s first summer single of 2016, remixing traditional First Nations Pow Wow music with hip hop and dubstep-influenced dance music. The single is a collaboration between A Tribe Called Red, the First Nation (Mohawk, Cayuga and Nipissing Anishnabe) hip hop group from Ottawa Canada and traditional Black Bear Singers, a traditional Atikamekw drum group from the community of Manawan, Quebec.

To produce Stadium Pow Wow, A Tribe Called Red, composed of members DJ NDN (Nipissing First Nation), Bear Witness (Mohawk), and 2oolman (Mohawk), worked with the Black Bear Singers. Black Bear was formed in 2000 and has released four full-length albums of indigenous northern drum music. A Tribe Called Red and Black Bear have collaborated together on numerous projects, including the tracks Bread & Cheese and The Road from Nation II Nation (2013).

The Third Eye is loving this single by A Tribe Called Red celebrating indigenous culture and mixing traditional music with contemporary dance sounds.
